Country: El Caribe
El Caribe is the Spanish name for the Caribbean Sea. It contains multiple island nations. 3 of them speak Spanish, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic.
The first European colony in the new world was founded by Christopher Columbus on the island of Hispañola. Today that island contains two countries. One of them is the Dominican Republic and one is Haiti, which speaks Creole French.
Many of the languages and music of El Caribe have African influence due to the large number of Africans brought over as a part of the slave trade.
Founded in 1538, the oldest university in the New World is located in Santo Domingo, which is the capital of the Dominican Republic. It is called the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo.
The first extra-solar planets were discovered at the world's largest single dish radio telescope, the Arecibo Observatory in Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
General Culture Notes

These are primarily from the mountainous regions of Southern Mexico and Guatemala, because they have evolved from the clothing of the Mayans.
